It’s a political gimmick: CM

June 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - BENGALURU:

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah termed the proposed padayatras to be taken out by the BJP and JD (S) as a “political gimmick”. The JD(S) has decided to take out the padayatra from Hubballi to Belagavi from June 26 to 29, and the BJP on June 28.

Replying to a question on pending arrears to sugarcane growers, he said the government would issue recovery certificates to factory owners if they declined to clear pending arrears.

The government would seize sugar, and sell it to clear cane growers’ pending dues, he said.

Advani’s remark

Reacting to BJP veteran L.K. Advani’s statement on Thursday that “a repeat of Emergency cannot be ruled out” in the future, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said: “Mr. Advani is one of the country’s tallest leaders, and he might have experienced an Emergency-like situation under the Modi government. Unlike other Prime Ministers, Mr. Modi centralises all decision-making processes. Mr. Advani has said this based on his experience during the one-year rule of the Modi government, he added.
