ITI students complain of corporal punishment

May 02, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - BENGALURU:

The principal of an ITI is in the dock for allegedly caning students, footage of which has been leaked to the electronic media. According to students, they haven’t been attending classes for a week, scared by the “unruly behaviour of the principal”.

A first year student of the ITI — SEA Industrial Training Centre, K.R. Puram — said the principal, N. Padmaraju, hits students regularly citing one reason or the other. Some of them are: not getting the textbook, coming to class a few minutes late, delay in submission of assignments and making minor mistakes in drawing. Students said it’s a nightmare for them to attend the engineering drawing classes by Padmaraju. They said eight students have left the college.

Students said they are scared to complain to the police as the college, which belongs to the South East Asian Education Trust, is owned by a local politician.

Efforts to reach the college management for its reaction were unsuccessful.
