While the infant that was kidnapped from Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital on October 4 was rescued and reunited with his mother on October 7, a manhunt is under way to track down Zubeena, the burqa-clad woman kidnapper and her two accomplices.

Sources said the suspect Zubeena, who has a three-year-old son, is a native of Anekal town. She moved to Bengaluru three years ago and resided on Hedge Nagar. Separated thrice, Zubeena, who is believed to be in her mid 30s, lived with her partner Noor Pasha in a rented house here till they vacated four months ago.

“On Sunday afternoon, Zubeena had gone to Bowring hospital with Pasha, and then kidnapped the infant from outside the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They then took the child to Zubeena’s brother Kareem’s residence in Shivamogga from where the child was rescued on Wednesday,” said an investigating officer.

“Kareem and Pasha have been established as her accomplices, and the trio could have been involved in previous cases of child thefts and sale of infants. However, the three don’t have any crime record,” the officer added.

Kareem, Pasha and Zubeena along with her little son are on the run with the police teams combing the trio’s possible hiding locations. Police sources ascertain that they have zeroed-in on Kareem’s whereabouts near Tumakuru, and he is expected to be apprehended my Friday night.
