Acting on complaints from local residents, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cleared illegal structures coming up on the buffer zone of Bellandur lake on Tuesday.

Pommala Sunil Kumar, Joint Commissioner of Mahadevpura, said, "Our officials cleared four sheds illegally built on the buffer zone. The drive will continue on Wednesday. We have written to the police to provide security. We have got information that these illegal activities have been going on for up to seven months in several pockets, and attempts are being made to convert the area into a slum."

Sonali Singh, a local resident, said, "It was a cause of grave concern for local residents as these hutments had no running water or sanitation facility. Further, there was an impact on the lake, as most of the people staying here were involved in waste management and were dumping waste into the lake."
