A 32-year-old habitual offender was hacked to death by a group of men at Gangammanagudi near Vidyaranyapura on Thursday night. The incident went unnoticed as it was raining heavily.

The deceased has been identified as David D., a resident of Ramachandrapura in Vidyaranyapura. He was working as a driver for a private ambulance service. He was named in several cases of robbery and theft.

A senior police officer said that the attack took place around 9.30 p.m. on Thursday when David was heading to a friend's house on a bike. The gang waylaid him. He was beheaded and his head was throw in a school ground, 100 metres away from the crime scene. The decapitated head was found by a school employee who alerted the police.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that David had a fight with some people in Vidyaranyapura over a girl. A special team was formed to nab the accused. Based on a tip-off, David’s rival Prasanna was detained for interrogation. The prime accused are at large,” the officer added.
