There was high drama at the office of Director-General and Inspector-General of Police on Nrupatunga Road here on Friday when P. Ravindranath who was transferred from his post of Additional Director-General of Police, Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), on Wednesday night following an incident at a coffee shop, turned up at his former office claiming that he was still the ADGP of KSRP.
Dr. Ravindranath said that he was keen on discharging his duties as KSRP chief, much to the chagrin of senior police officials. Senior IPS officer S.N. Megharik took additional charge as ADGP (KSRP) on Wednesday night itself amid unruly protests by KSRP staff.
Dr. Ravindranath has not been given any posting yet.
Though Dr. Ravindranath admitted to the media that a government order of his transfer had been issued, there were discrepancies in the procedure and he had technically not given charge to Mr. Megharik yet. So, he said, he still was in charge of the KSRP.
While Dr. Ravindranath had been served a letter that stated that he had been relieved of his duties as ADGP (KSRP) at a television studio by a head constable on Thursday, he had declined to sign it.
Dr. Ravindranath said there was a technical issue in the letter for which he had sought clarification.
After reaching office, Dr. Ravindranath started looking at files when he was summoned by L.R. Pachau, D-G & I-GP, who issued oral orders asking Dr. Ravindra nath to hand over charge to Mr. Megharik. Later, Dr. Ravindranath left the office with his belongings. “There was a procedural lapse and that was corrected today. Now, I will wait for my posting or the acceptance of my resignation. As the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department, I will meet the investigating officials and urge them to arrest me in the interest of a fair probe and justice,” he said.
