The Department of Kannada and Culture also extends medical reimbursement facilities to artistes, but it is restricted to those who have won awards instituted by the government, apart from people who have held positions in State-run bodies. Says K.A. Dayanand, Director of the Department, “All our 2,400 Rajyothsava awardees in the last 50 years are covered under this medical scheme. We issue a medical card. All their medical expenses are reimbursed. The same holds good for our Academy and Parishat directors.”
