Government plans to seek public opinion on school safety norms

October 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - Bengaluru:

The State government on Thursday told the Karnataka High Court that it is contemplating seeking public opinion on the draft comprehensive guidelines on safety of children in schools before the Cabinet takes a final call on the guidelines.

The government counsel, who pointed out that the Cabinet is yet to take a decision on the draft comprehensive guidelines, said the government, in the meanwhile, is also thinking of seeking the opinion of the public on the draft guidelines. These submissions were made during the hearing of the petitions filed by associations of school managements complaining they were finding it difficult to implement the safety guidelines as different departments are coming out with different norms, and some of the norms were impractical and expensive.

Justice A.S. Bopanna has adjourned further hearing by two weeks as counsel sought time to update the court on action to be taken by the government.
