‘Government blind to our achievements'

November 01, 2011 11:12 am | Updated 11:12 am IST - Bangalore:

Members of the Karnataka Welfare Association for the Blind, who are upset with the State Government for not choosing any visually impaired person for the Rajyotsava award after 1998, have threatened to stage a black flag protest demonstration in front of Kannada and Culture Minister Govind M. Karjol's house on Tuesday.

Addressing presspersons on Monday, association's Governing Council member Veerappa said although there are some members from the association who have excelled in their field, the Government had ignored their candidature.

“We had written to the Government recommending our General Secretary S. Parashivamurthy, who is a retired English Professor from Maharani's College in the city and also a writer, for the award. But it has been ignored: this is an injustice. In 1998, the Government had presented the award to Venugopal for music,” he said.
