A garment shop owner and his friends on Thursday followed and caught a woman with fake currency notes in ₹2000 denomination on the outskirts of the city. They handed over the woman and her accomplice, an autorikshaw driver, to the police.
The racket came to light when the woman identified as Jayamma came to a garment shop owned by Thimmaraju in Nelamangala. She made some purchase for ₹ 500 and handed over ₹ 2000 to Thimmaraju, who after checking the note found it to be a fake. He gave it back to her and she left, boarding an autorikshaw, driven by one Govindaraju, which parked a few yards away from the shop.
After discussing the incident with his friends, Thimmaraju decided to follow the woman in a car. Their doubt of her involvement in a fake currency racket was confirmed when the woman entered a bakery shop in Dabaspet and purchased biscuits and snacks for ₹ 250 with the fake currency. The unsuspecting shopkeeper gave her the change.
She again got into the auto and Thimmaraju followed them and intercepted the auto. He and his friends found 23 fake notes in her possession. They called the police and handed over the duo, who have been taken into custody for further questioning.
