Former Mayor P.R. Ramesh has said that for better administration, it was best to bifurcate or trifurcate the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP).
On Friday, the former Mayors met incumbent Mayor B.S. Sathyanarayana and discussed measures to improving administration and providing better civic infrastructure in the city.
Putte Gowda said Kannada should be compulsorily implemented as the administrative language in the BBMP.
To this, Mr. Sathyanarayana said Kannada was the administrative language in the civic body. However, he said he would direct the officials to strictly enforce the same.
Padmavathi Gangadhar Gowda suggested maintaining toilets in the city and said that they could be developed on a public-private-partnership basis. Permission could be given to display advertisements on toilets, and the revenue collected might be used for their maintenance, she suggested.
The solution to fill BBMP’s coffers lies with the implementation of the Akrama-Sakrama scheme, said J. Hutchappa. He said the revenue garnered from the scheme could be pumped into the development of the city.
M. Ramachandrappa stressed the need for planting saplings on either side of the roads. He pointed out that the city had lost considerable green cover, owing to various development projects taken up in the last few years. He also underscored the need for better coordination between different civic agencies.
Finally, all the former Mayors unanimously noted that the term of a Mayor must be extended to either three or five years.
