Former BSF jawan shoots uncle

A former Border Security Force (BSF) jawan shot his uncle dead and injured his cousin after a dispute over land at Mallenahalli near Devanahalli on Friday night.

According to Devanahalli police, at around 8.30 p.m., Manjunath (44), retired BSF jawan who is an assistant general manager in a private security firm, barged into the house of his uncle, Nagaraj Achari (60). He then shot at his uncle twice, hitting him in the chest and missing him the second time. When Mr. Achari’s son, Ravi Kumar (28) rushed to rescue his father, Manjunath allegedly shot at him in the shoulder.

While Achari died on the way to hospital, Ravi Kumar is said to be undergoing treatment and is out of danger. Police said Manjunath was arrested at around 11 p.m. near Devanahalli while attempting to escape in his car.

Land dispute

Police said the dispute was with regard to the inheritance of a 1.5-acre plot in the village, 12 km from Devanahalli. The ownership of the land was being contested by Manjunath, Nagaraj Achari and their relative Ashwathnarayan. Achari moved court and Manjunath had got court notice on Friday triggering the fight.
