The Rajarajeshwari Nagar police have initiated a probe to track down the contractor responsible for the breach in Hosakerehalli lake which resulted in flooding of houses early Sunday morning.
Siddaramaiah M., Junior Engineer, BBMP, in his complaint to the police said that while the Bangalore Development Authority was developing the lake, the BWSSB had constructed a bund linking it to a stormwater drain. “However, some persons had closed the bund. Due to heavy rain, the water level increased and the lake breached,” said a senior police officer.
Meanwhile, the management of the Sri Sharadamba Vidya Niketan School in Javaregowdanagar in Rajarajeshwarinagar was forced to close the school for the second consecutive day on Tuesday as water had entered it premises. “The ground floor of the school was flooded. That’s where the classrooms from nursery to Standard II are located. We were forced to declare a holiday,” said a school official, adding that several important documents were lost.
The RR Nagar police have taken up a case against unknown persons charging them under Sections 427 (mischief causing damage) and 336 (act endangering life or personal safety of others).
The police have summoned the contractor who had constructed the bund for questioning.
