The cyber crime police are on the lookout for the people who allegedly created over eight accounts of Indi constituency MLA Yashwanthrayagouda V. Patil on Facebook and sought $5,000.

Based on a complaint filed by Rudresh S.C., personal assistant of Patil, the cyber crime police registered an FIR on Friday against unknown persons charging them under Section 66 of the IT Act .

In his complaint, Rudresh alleged that as many as eight FB accounts had been created in the name of the MLA and his photograph posted.

The accused posted messages pretending to be the MLA. On one of the FB accounts, the accused posted an SOS message: “Please I really need 5,000 dollars”. The message said that he was in dire need of money and the amount would be returned in double.

The MLA, through the complaint, requested the cyber crime police to trace the accused and take legal action and also help him remove all the fake FB accounts created in his name.

The cyber crime police are trying to track down the culprit through the IP address and efforts are on to block the fake accounts.
