Nikhil, the 14-year-old boy who suffered 50% burns when he was electrocuted after he came in proximity to a high tension wire at Mathikere on Thursday afternoon, continues to remain stable and under observation.
Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, he was playing on the streets at Netajinagar when the ball was lobbed to the roof of a house. When he got to the terrace to fetch the ball, he came in contact with the ‘arc flash boundary’ of a high tension wire. He is being treated in the Burns Ward of Victoria Hospital.
“He is stable, but his condition has not improved. We are keeping a watch,” said K.T. Ramesh, Head of the Department of Plastic Surgery in Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute.
At Netajinagar, where the incident took place, officials were collecting information on the owners of the houses that have been built illegally under the high tension wires.
“Notices will be sent to the owners. All have been told to remove staircases leading to the terraces close to the high tension wires,” said Jayaprakash M.C., the local councillor who will be meeting KPTCL and Bescom officials on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Bescom claims to have trimmed over 7,000 tree branches over poles in the runup to the monsoon while dilapidated and weak electric poles have been identified and strengthened. An additional 2,000 gang men have been hired for maintenance work during monsoon, officials said.
