Delay in visas: travel plans for July most hit

June 25, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - BENGALURU:

With the delay in processing of visas to the U.S., those who were planning to travel in July are the ones who have been hit the worst, tour operators here said.

Naveen Kumar from Travel Planet said there were no cancellations for June, but those who had booked flight tickets for the first week of July with interview dates for this month-end are coming forward to cancel tickets. There are many students who completed interview and are waiting for the visa to come through, he said, and added that they would, however, be travelling late in July or in August just before the term begins. Most of those who travel to the U.S. are those visiting family members or on work, he added.

Another tour operator said the delay had hit a small number of bookings as tickets were usually booked only after the visa was through. “People usually book tickets in advance. Only about 5 per cent take the chance and book tickets before the visa is through,” an operator said.
