The High Court of Karnataka on Wednesday asked the State government to give wide publicity about creation of police complaints authorities in every district.

Justice A.N. Venugopala Gowda issued a direction in this regard on noticing that many of the already established district authorities have either not received any complaint or have received one or two complaints in the past one year. The court was hearing a petition, which had questioned the nomination to the post of a member of the State Police Complaints Authority, through which the court is ensuring that such authorities are established in every district as per the mandate of the law.

Meanwhile, the government told the court that of the nine districts in Bengaluru division, only six complaints were received – five in Bengaluru Urban and one in Bengaluru Rural – and they are pending.

Only five complaints were received in eight districts of Mysuru division, one in Dakshina Kannada and five in Mysuru district. And four complaints – two each in Dharwad and Vijayapura districts – were received in the seven districts coming under Belagavi division.

No complaints were received from any of the six districts coming under the Kalaburagi division.
