A 25-year-old woman from Colombia died after falling from the balcony of her second floor flat in Murugeshpalya, off Old Airport Road, early Sunday morning.

The deceased, Karen Daniela, was a resident of Wildflower Hall apartment in Rustom Bagh Layout, said the police who have registered a case of unnatural death.

She had been living in Bengaluru for the past four years and worked as a Spanish-to-English translator for a hotel in Indiranagar. She shared the flat with another woman, Maria, who is also from Colombia, police said.

According to the police, on Friday night, Karen and Maria had gone to a friend’s house in Whitefield for a party. After staying overnight, their friends dropped the women at their apartment on Saturday. “Around 3.15 a.m., Karen was standing in the balcony. Maria, who was inside the apartment, heard a thud sound. She came to the balcony, but there was no sign of Karen,” said the police.

When she realised that her friend had fallen from the balcony, Maria called her friends who informed the police. “We are waiting for the post-mortem report from Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital,” said the police, adding that the embassy of Colombia has been informed of the incident.

“Once her relatives come to Bengaluru, the post-mortem will be done to ascertain the exact cause of death,” a senior police officer said. The Jeevan Bhima Nagar police have taken up a case of unnatural death.
