Alert traffic police on Sunday told the chief minister's convoy to make way for an ambulance on Sunday evening.

Returning from Hassan, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his entourage had landed at HAL airport around 4.30 p.m. The police had cleared Old Airport Road for his convoy.

But as the convoy left the airport, an ambulance of Hosmat hospital turned into Old Airport Road from Surjandas Road. It was carrying a patient.

The HAL traffic police conveyed the message to senior police officers who in turn alerted the pilot of the CM’s convoy and told him to allow the ambulance to pass. The ambulance was allowed to overtake the convoy and reach the hospital.

DCP (East-Traffic) Abhishek Goel said that this underscores the city police’s moto that an ambulance gets preference over all others.

It may be recalled that the city police had come under fire following reports that the CM’s convoy held up an ambulance near Town Hall on J.C. Road earlier in May.

The incident prompted Commissioner Praveen Sood to instruct his colleagues to facilitate free movement of ambulances at any cost.
