Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa, on Tuesday, assured full cooperation towards implementation of the long-pending suburban rail project when he met Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi, Railway Board Chairperson Vinod Kumar Yadav and officials of the South Western Railways, Bengaluru division.
Mr. Angadi told The Hindu that the project, which was approved by the Extended Railway Board, would be placed before the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs for final approval soon. Loans for 60% of the ₹15,900 crore project would be raised while the remaining 40% would be shared between the Centre and State government. “All the Karnataka MPs, along with Mr. Yediyurappa, will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the upcoming parliamentary session,” he said.
The meeting was attended by Bengaluru Central MP P.C. Mohan, Shivamogga MP B.Y. Raghavendra and others.
Other railway projects were also discussed. Sources, who were privy to the meeting, told The Hindu that several new lines have been proposed across Karnataka.
“Mr. Angadi directed the State government and railway officials to identify priority projects and expedite land acquisition wherever required,” a source said.
