June 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:31 am IST - Bengaluru:

The State government has ordered a CID probe into the alleged murder of a student in Koppal district.

It was alleged that Yellalinga, a college student and a resident of Kanakagiri in Gangavati taluk, was murdered by supporters of Minor Irrigation Minister Shivaraj Tangadagi, in January 2015, for exposing siphoning off of funds under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. A PU student, Yellalinga had exposed large-scale lapses in implementation of job scheme works in Hulihyder Gram Panchayat in Kanakagiri, which is the constituency of the Minister. On January 11, his body was found on the railway tracks on the outskirts of Koppal. Among those arrested was the son of a Congress leader.

The Opposition was up in arms, demanding that Mr. Tangadagi be dropped from the Ministry.
