At most convocation ceremonies, students are usually advised on how to face the “real world” once they graduate. Devi Prasad Shetty chair, board of governors, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), adopted a more novel approach at the convocation ceremony on Friday.
He urged students to buy the most expensive mobile phone in the market and use it to run their businesses. "The business of the future will run on mobile phones. We check our computers four or five times a day, but check our phones around 200 times a day," he said.
Companies will invest more and more in digital assets and their managers will have to supervise bots, not humans. “The management curriculum, therefore, must evolve to cope with a rapidly evolving digital landscape. And I am happy to say that IIM Bangalore is moving in the right direction to build such business leaders for tomorrow.”
Arundhati Bhattacharya, former chairperson, State Bank of India who was the chief guest, recollected incidents from her own life and career when she addressed students on ‘Setting up for Success’.
