A British High Commission employee, who helped officials concerned during an anti-encroachment drive in his home town, claims to have got death threats. He filed a complaint with the Cubbon Park police on Saturday.

Based on the complaint of Murugan M., the police have registered an FIR against the caller charging him under Sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication).

In his complaint, Mr. Murugan said that he is from Silvarpatti in Tamil Nadu. He had helped officials of the panchayat development office in an anti encroachment drive on a rajakaluve.

Villagers who had encroached upon the rajakaluve allegedly told Mr. Murugan to stay away, but he continued to support the officials.

A few encroachers began to call him since January and threatened him with dire consequences, alleged Mr. Murugan, who has also informed the police in Silvarpatti.

Initially, he ignored the calls, but when the caller allegedly started threatening to kill him and harm his family, he decided to approach the police seeking legal action, he said.

The Cubbon Park police are trying to track down the caller through the three different mobile numbers used to used to make the calls to Mr. Murugan.
