The remains of a man was found in a forest in Doddabelavangala on Tuesday. The police are yet to confirm the identity of the deceased person and determine whether there was any foul play.

After finding a shirt and a set of keys in the area, villagers believe that the deceased is Yeregowda, a 45-year-old from Thammenahalli who was missing for three months. His wife left him three months ago and returned to her parents’ house in an adjacent village because of his alcoholism, said the police.

A few days after she left with their children, Yeregowda announced that he would be travelling to her maternal house to convince her to return. His family never saw him again.

His father Rangappa and his elder brother L. Narayana searched for him. On Tuesday, they found his shirt and a set of keys to the pump house in the forest, and alerted the police.

“When we searched the area, we found a skull and other remains. We have sent samples to the FSL to determine the identity of the deceased,” said a police officer.

The police suspect that Yeregowda may have fallen unconscious in the forest due to excessive alcohol consumption, and may have fallen prey to wild animals. “A DNA test will be done to establish his identity,” the officer added.
