March 05, 2012 10:26 am | Updated 10:26 am IST - Bangalore:

Three biscuit-laden trucks parked in a row went up in flames near Hejjala on Bangalore-Mysore Highway in Ramanagaram district on Sunday.

“The fire broke out at 3.55 p.m. in the godown of the biscuit factory and it was doused at 5.50 p.m.,” Harish, an eye-witness, who alerted the Department of Fire and Emergency Services, told The Hindu .

According to Mr. Harish, who lives adjacent to the godown, he was washing clothes when the fire broke out.

Battery spark

A spark from the battery box of one of the trucks caused the fire. Three fire tenders and at least 30 personnel were pressed into service, a department official said.

While one truck was completely gutted, the other two were partially burnt. However, drivers and cleaners of the vehicles escaped unhurt, the official said.

Two-way vehicular movement on the highway was disrupted as curious onlookers gathered in front of the premises of the godown.
