Revenue Minister V. Srinivas Prasad on Thursday said the Belagavi district, the largest district in the State, will be bifurcated and more taluks will be created to take the administration to the doorsteps of the people.
The Minister, who visited the Congress party office here, said bifurcation of the district would be announced during the budget session of the legislature. Chikkodi or Gokak district would be carved out of the present Belagavi district. Now, the district comprised 10 taluks,
Currently there are three revenue sub-divisions and six police sub-divisions. Apart from the Belagavi City Corporation, there are 17 municipalities, 20 towns and 485 gram panchayats. The district is also the headquarters of the Belagavi Revenue Division.
Now, the State has 30 districts and 177 taluks. Just prior to the 2013 Assembly elections, the previous BJP Government headed by Jagadish Shettar has announced creation of 43 new taluks. The bifurcation of the district as well creation of more taluks would be announced after holding talks with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, he said.
Mr. Prasad said more taluks and hoblis would be crated to ensure effective implementation of welfare schemes.
Burial grounds:
The Minister said government burial grounds would be established in the Gram Panchayat (GP) limits by setting aside two acres of government land.
The area would be fenced and GPs would be asked to maintain the burial grounds.
