Reiterating their earlier demand, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) have again requested the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Bangalore Elevated Tollway Private Ltd (BETL) to prohibit the movement of two-wheelers on the Hosur Road Elevated Expressway.
DCP Traffic (East) Abhishek Goyal made the request in a letter sent to the NHAI and BETL on Monday. On January 26, the expressway saw an accident in which a biker was run over by a commercial passenger vehicle (Tempo Traveller). “A letter has been sent again detailing eight fatal accidents,” Mr Goyal told The Hindu .
The DCP Traffic (East), in a tweet on Monday, asked NHAI and BETL to consider arranging speed rumblers at a gap of 750 metres to reduce speed, apart from speed-trap cameras with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) at a gap of 2km to catch violators; HD quality CCTV cameras to monitor off-road vehicles and Quick Reaction Extraction Teams to remove such vehicles.
Traffic police have asked the authorities concerned to prohibit entry of two-wheelers until the above measures are implemented. In a span of two years, at least three motorists have fallen off the flyover and died, after being hit by four-wheelers. The Electronics City flyover is a four-lane stretch with an overall width of 15 metres.
