A 19-year-old youth from Odisha was stabbed by two armed men who fled with his bag containing ₹1,000, a mobile phone, his Aadhaar card and some clothes. The alleged incident took place near Khoday Circle in Cottonpet on Sunday night, the day he arrived in Bengaluru with his friend in search of a job.

The victim, Madhav, was found lying on the roadside bleeding profusely on account of multiple stab wounds, said the police. He was taken to Victoria Hospital where his condition is said to be critical.

According to the police, Madhav and his friend Bhavan had come to Bengaluru that night with the intention of working as labourers. They were to meet their friend Lalu, who hails from their hometown and had a job at a construction site.

“The duo arrived at City Railway Station and called Lalu to come pick them up. However, Lalu was unable to come to the station as he was busy at work. He asked them to spend the night on the railway platform and said he would pick them up the next day,” said the police. After a while, Madhav left the station to get them some food.

Bhavan waited for an hour before heading in the direction Madhav had taken. On reaching Khoday Circle, Bhavan saw a group of people gathered on the roadside, with the police talking to an injured Madhav.

“In his statement, he said that two men approached him and offered to show him a place where he could get dinner,” said the police. Madhav accompanied them. On the way, one of the men allegedly pulled out a knife and demanded his bag. When Madhav resisted, they allegedly stabbed him and ran away with his bag.
