Ancient Tamil epic on stage tomorrow

The most acclaimed Tamil epic ‘Silappadikaram’ (Tale of an anklet) will be staged as a mega-ballet on October 17 at 6 p.m. at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Vyalikaval.

It has been directed and adapted for the stage by the Bangalore Club For Kathakali & the Arts. Over 50 dancers from various schools in Bengaluru will present ballet in several forms, including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, Kalari, Mohiniyattam, Kathak, Odissi, Chau and Kathakali. Director of the ballet Meena Das Narayan said, “The club intends to revive the old epics and popularise them amongst the youth. The ancient epic will be handled with a modern edge for youngsters to follow the storyline.”
