Access control system planned at Vidhana Soudha

May 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - Bengaluru:

A high-level meeting in the Vidhana Soudha on Saturday deliberated on overhauling the security of the building, essentially introducing access control systems to enter the State’s seat of power.

This follows a major security breach where an enthusiastic Congress supporter garlanded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his third floor office with a battery-operated electrical garland last week. The Saturday’s meeting, chaired by Secretary, Home, S.K. Pattanayak, was attended by the city police and intelligence personnel.

“Only vehicles with a secretariat pass will henceforth be allowed inside the building after ID verification. We are streamlining the issuance of entry passes to the Vidhana Soudha. Even with an entry pass, people need to mention whom they want to meet, and their movement within the Vidhana Soudha area will be restricted,” said Mr. Pattanayak. The meeting also decided to conduct an exhaustive security audit of the Vidhana Soudha and the Vikasa Soudha and look into the annual maintenance contracts of security equipment at the buildings and replace any equipment if found to be faulty beyond repair.
