“It’s nice to be appreciated and I am happy to receive ‘thank you’ card and flowers from them,” said Chandramma, one of the pourakarmikas who participated in Pourakarmikas’ Day celebrations organised for the seventh consecutive year by the Children’s Movement for Civic Awareness (CMCA), here on Tuesday.
Mysore Narayana, president of the Karnataka Rajya Pourakarmikas’ Mahasangha, lauded CMCA for its efforts to recognise the contribution of pourakarmikas in keeping the city clean. “People look down upon the pourakarmikas. It is good that CMCA recognises the pourakarmikas’ efforts in keeping the city environs clean.”
Children from private and government institutions, gave away ‘thank you’ cards, flowers and sweets to pourakarmikas present at the event.
Games that were organised on the occasion saw the enthusiastic participation of pourakarmikas.
According to a press release, through the month, 5,000 CMCA members from 100 CMCA Bangalore member schools will visit ward offices or invite pourakarmikas to their schools to thank them.
The CMCA has urged citizens to appreciate the work done by pourakarmikas and cooperate with them in keeping the city clean by segregating the waste at source.
