As a young boy five decades ago, Ameer Hasan Arkula did not have money to pursue medical education. Now at the age of 72, he is on the verge of getting M.Sc. in yoga from Mangalore University, and is planning to become a yoga therapist.

Mr. Arkula, a retired college principal, who joined the regular postgraduate course in human consciousness and yogic sciences at Mangalore University in 2013-14, wrote the final semester examination of the two-year course last month. He is awaiting the results.

He has B.Sc., B.Ed., M.Ed., and LL.B degrees already. He served as founder-principal of three B.Ed. colleges and as professor at another B.Ed. college in the city.

Mr. Arkula said after getting his M.Sc. degree he wanted to open an institute offering yoga therapy in the city. He said that the course helped him improve his health.

A native of Kasaragod in Kerala, Mr. Arkula has now settled in Bejai in Mangaluru.
