A feast for theatre buffs

Bengaluru Centre of the National School of Drama (NSD) has organised a four-day Natakotsava in association with the Department of Kannada and Culture from Sunday.

According to C. Basavalingaiah, director of the NSD’s Bengaluru Centre, besides teams from Karnataka, theatre troupes from Kolkata are staging plays at the festival. Illa Andre Ide and Buddha-Prabuddha , Kannada plays, Macbeth Badya (Bengali) and Mani Mekhale (multilingual) will be staged.

This festival is starting even as students are beginning the second year of their course. In the first year, they were part of a magnum opus theatre production, Malegalalli Madumagalu of Kuvempu, 10 days of Poorva-Uttara Rangotsava Company theatre festival, and performances of Yakshagana and Koodiyattam.

At the end of their course, students staged Siri , a folktale-based play of coastal Karnataka, directed by B. Jayashree.
