When students talk their way to an award

November 07, 2010 08:37 pm | Updated 08:37 pm IST - Bangalore:

It is that time of the year when students from top colleges from the country and a little beyond will contest in the battle of wits to establish their verbal supremacy. The ninth edition of the annual National Law School Debate kick-started on the university campus in Nagarabhavi here on Saturday.

Around 60 colleges from across the country and from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Malaysia are participating in what is often referred to as south-east Asia's largest debate.

The best of the teams, consisting of three members each, will make it to the finals scheduled to be held on November 10.

This year's external adjudication pool comprises Suthen Tate Thomas, Logandran Balavijendran, Vipul Nanda, Manav Kumar along with judges Prabhat Kiran Mukherjee and Yaman Verma.

To infuse interest in the art of debating among more students, the organisers have also included debates for novices and the best novice speaker will be awarded too.

The winning team will take home a cash prize of Rs. 45,000 along with the trophy.

Registrations for participation are closed. Entry is free for public. For details, call Badrinarayan Seetharaman on 9449823056 or Pranav Ravikumar on 9986786165.
