Members of the Karnataka State Coordination Committee of Central Government Employees and Workers staged a dharna here on Friday in support of the proposed strike by employees of India Post and the Income Tax Department following non-payment of pension for retired employees.
Postal workers and Income Tax Department employees will be going on a nationwide strike on July 13 and July 15 demanding the dropping of the proposed move to outsource any government functions, increasing the percentage of compassionate appointment on a par with the Railways, regularisation of daily rated workers, implementation of arbitration awards, filling up all vacant posts and removing anomalies in Modified Assured Career Progression scheme.
Addressing protesters in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue, P.S. Prasad, general secretary of the coordination committee, said: “As the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers of New Delhi have said, five lakh postal and Railway Mail Service employees of India Post will go on indefinite strike from July 13,” and warned that the strike could cripple the functioning of India Post.
