Concerned over the diminishing green cover of the city owing to its horizontal expansion and unbridled urbanisation, students of Maharanai's Science College organised a rally to preserve the city's greenery.

The students marched from the college premises through the main thoroughfares of Mysore to draw people's attention to the erosion of green cover. They carried placards and banners with slogans pointing out that each citizen is responsible for the upkeep of the city's environment and to maintain its greenery.

The procession passed through the JLB Road, Railway Station, Irwin Road, Nehru Circle, Ashoka Circle and touched the Clock Tower before hitting the Devaraja Urs Road to culminate at the office of the Deputy Commissioner. The students submitted a memorandum to the authorities seeking their urgent attention to the diminishing green cover and exhorting them to take initiatives to preserve the lung space of Mysore and protect its green belt.
