September 07, 2009 02:23 pm | Updated 02:23 pm IST - BANGALORE:

Two persons fleeing the police after stealing valuables were shot at in Hongasandra in Madiwala police station limits on Sunday night. This comes just a week after the police shot at a person running away with a stolen gold chain in J.P. Nagar.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Alok Kumar, the two persons threatened two others who were on their way home, took away their valuables and fled. The police got to know of the incident immediately and began to search for the culprits. Madiwala inspector Purushottam and a few other policemen zeroed in on the culprits and tried to stop them, but the culprits hit Purushottam and a police constable and tried to escape.

The police were then forced to fire at the culprits on their legs. The two have been admitted to St. John’s and Hosmat hospitals. Their condition is said to be stable. The injured inspector and the constable are also receiving treatment, Mr. Kumar said.
