The State Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the proposed Namma Metro link between Central Silk Board and K.R. Puram along the Outer Ring Road. The 17-km metro rail link will be taken up at an estimated cost of ₹4,202 crore.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation had recently put up the detailed project report (DPR) for this line, proposed to be included under Phase II, online for public consultation. The line will have 13 stations and the estimated daily ridership will be around three lakh, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister T.B. Jayachandra said on Wednesday.
Phase II is slated for completion by 2020, and this line, most likely to be called Phase II (A), will also be completed within the same deadline, officials said. BMRCL had proposed several ‘innovative financing’ methods such as premium FSI (Floor Space Index), cess on approval of new layouts, a betterment levy or exploitation of commercial spaces. According to estimates, around ₹1,100 crore is likely to be generated through these methods.
It will be an overhead line and according to the DPR, the splitting of flyovers on the intersection on the Outer Ring Road provides an ideal condition for constructing the metro line between the gaps of the two flyovers. “This will make construction easy without disturbing road traffic,” the report says.
Namma Metro’s Phase I network of 42.3 km is expected to be fully operational by April this year.
