JD(S) hopes for ‘conscience votes’

June 07, 2016 12:00 am | Updated September 16, 2016 11:15 am IST - BENGALURU:

Accusing the Congress of indulging in ‘horse trading’ to assure victory to the third candidate — the former IPS officer K.C. Ramamurthy — JD(S) State president H.D. Kumaraswamy on Monday sought to know the reason behind taking JD(S) rebel legislators to a resort, even after they openly declared their support to the Congress.

However, refusing to accept the defeat of the party’s Rajya Sabha candidate, B.M. Farook, and second candidate for Council Venkatapathy, Mr. Kumaraswamy said, “I am asking for conscience vote and still believe in the integrity of legislators.”

Meanwhile, disciplinary action by the party against five rebel legislators has become almost certain. “Regardless of their stature, the party will take action against those who defy the whip in the meeting convened on June 12,” he declared.
