The Indira Gandhi National Open University's (IGNOU) Tagore Chair for Indian Literature will be inaugurated in Bangalore on November 20.
Talking to presspersons here on Wednesday, U.R. Ananthamurthy, IGNOU's Tagore Professor for Indian Literature, said he was planning to start a visual cultural course aimed at teaching how to understand a movie and review it. “It is being planned to show a series of movies and invite movie makers to interact with those who join the course. The proposal is in the initial stage,” he added.
He said a poet's meet in which 16 poets of Hindi, English, Marathi, Lambani, Beary, Kannada, Tamil, Bengali, Urdu, Konkani, Kodava, Malayalam, Manipuri, Telugu, Tulu and Maithili will participate, will be held.
Prof. Ananthmurthy said that the meet will be held in a different way. “We will first read out the translated form of the poem and then the original poem to make the people understand it better,” he added.
Expressing happiness that the IGNOU had chosen Bangalore for the Chair to mark the 150{+t}{+h} birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, Prof. Ananthamurthy said that Tagore through his poems empowered all Indian languages. The office of the Tagore Chair will be located at Kannada Bhavan.
