The Karnataka High Court on Thursday disposed of a petition by Samarpana, a non-governmental organisation, against the proposed high-speed rail link from Bangalore city to Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL).
The NGO said a pick-up station had been envisaged at the Hebbal lake, which, if allowed to come up in the vicinity of the water body, would be harmful.
It said although it had given a representation to the authorities, it had not been considered. A Division Bench comprising Justice V.G. Sabhahit and Justice A.S. Bopanna asked Samarpana to give a representation to the authorities who in turn were asked to consider it.
RTI Act
Justice Rammohan Reddy on Thursday asked the office of the Governor to give Vijay Kumar, an advocate from Bangalore, copies of the affidavits sworn in by legislators of the Janata Dal (Secular) promising support to B.S. Yeddyurappa when the BJP-Janata Dal (Secular) coalition government was in the making three years ago. Mr. Vijay Kumar pointed out that the Janata Dal (Secular) legislators had handed over letters and affidavits to the Governor promising support to Mr. Yeddyurappa to form the Government. Subsequently, they withdrew support, leading to the Government's fall. Mr. Vijay Kumar said it was unfortunate that the affidavits had been misused by legislators. When he had applied for them under the RTI Act, the Governor's office had refused to part with the communication saying that they were privileged and not part of public domain.
