A penalty of more than Rs. 5.24 lakh was imposed on four flour mills for power theft. In a drive against power theft, pilferage and misuse across the State, vigilance and special vigilance teams of the Electricity supply companies (Escoms) inspected a large number of electrical installations on Tuesday across the State and booked many installations.
The special inspection team of M.T. Gulbarga caught one flour mill at Siragi village in Gulbarga taluk for committing power theft by tampering meter security seals and manipulating meter readings. A penalty of Rs.1.22 lakh was imposed and a criminal case booked.
The vigilance team of Bijapur caught two flour mills at Hunshgal village in Sindagi taluk for committing power theft by by-passing the meter. A total penalty of Rs.2.57 lakh was imposed and criminal cases booked against them.
Similarly, the vigilance team of Bagalkot caught one flour mill at Terdal village in Jamkhandi taluk for committing power theft by directly drawing power from the distribution lines and imposed a penalty of Rs.1.45 lakh. A criminal case was also booked.
Inspector General of Police (Vigilance and Enforcement) has warned of serious action against those indulging in theft, pilferage and misuse of power in the State.
