The first electronic driving test track to give driving licence in the country is all set for inauguration here on Thursday.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa will inaugurate the track built for the Jnana Bharathi Regional Transport Office on its new premises in Railwaymen House Building Cooperative Society Layout, off Vidyaniketan School, in Mallathahalli.

The electronic track has been built by Cascade Systems in association with KEONICS at a cost of about Rs. 1.6 crore with fund allocation by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

The test facility that uses electronic sensor technology has two tracks for motorcycles and five tracks for four-wheelers. While a two-wheeler driving licence seeker has to give one test in one lap, four-wheeler driver has to give five tests one after the other.

Transport Commissioner Bhaskar Rao piloted this project after its success in the KSRTC, where he had introduced a similar test for selecting drivers during his stint as Director (Security and Vigilance). The Jnana Bharathi Regional Transport Officer Syed Shafi Ahmed had introduced a similar, but manual system, in front of the existing office on Mysore Road.
