Couple among six killed on city's roads

Six people died and a woman was injured in four separate road accidents here in the last 24 hours.

Software engineer Yeshwanth (28) and autorickshaw driver Shivakumar (27) died on the spot and a motorcycle rider, a woman, injured when a ready-mix concrete truck rammed their vehicles in a serial accident at Arakere Junction on Bannerghatta Road at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

The police said the truck driver lost control and ploughed into the two vehicles which were at the traffic light.

Yeshwanth of Hyderabad, who had recently joined a software company on Bannerghatta Road, flagged down the autorickshaw to go to his workplace.

The autorickshaw was stationed behind a Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus when the truck slammed into it, crushing both the young men to death.

The truck went on to hit a two-wheeler, also waiting for the light to change.

“The rider, Vani, a private company employee, was rushed to a nearby hospital with injuries,” an officer at the Mico Layout police station told The Hindu .

The truck driver fled and the police seized the vehicle.

Another concrete mixer

It was yet another ready-mix concrete vehicle which claimed the life of two-wheeler rider Suresh Babu (24), on Mysore Road here Thursday noon.

The Byatarayanapura traffic police said Suresh Babu, a private company employee and resident of Kamakshipalya, was heading towards Byatarayanapura when the truck hit him in front of the Gali Anjaneyaswamy temple.

The truck driver fled.

Bleeds to death

In the third fatal accident, Thammanna (52) of Nagarabhavi lost his life when a BMTC Volvo bus hit his motorcycle near the Agara flyover on Sarjapur Road at 1 p.m. on Thursday.

The Madivala traffic police said the victim, a Tahsildar's Office employee who was heading towards Kripanidhi College, bled to death.

The police arrested the bus driver Sanjeev Kumar.

Husband and wife

The fourth accident, which claimed a couple, occurred at 11.45 p.m. on Wednesday at Diacon Hospital junction in Rajajinagar.

For Mahadevappa (50) and his wife, Yeshodamma (48), residents of Moodalapalya near Vijayanagar, death was instantaneous when a lorry hit their moped and ran over them, the Malleswaram traffic police said.

Arrested

Driver Mahantesh (24) of Kataki village in Muddebihal taluk of Bijapur district was arrested.
