A 68-year-old retired private firm employee was killed while fighting a robber who was fleeing with valuables from his house in LIC Housing Board, Yelahanka, on Tuesday. The deceased has been identified as Ananth Ramaiah who was living with his son and daughter-in-law in a duplex house.

According to the police, Ananth Ramaiah, who sleeps on the ground floor, noticed that a man had gained entry into the house by breaking open the back door and was searching for valuables. Ramaiah pounced on the man and tried to grab him. In an effort to escape, the robber attacked him with an iron rod. Ramaiah sustained severe head injuries and raised an alarm for help, prompting neighbours to rush to his help.

Sensing trouble, the robber grabbed a suitcase lying nearby and escaped. The neighbours rushed Ananth Ramaiah to a private hospital before alerting the police. Ramaiah died in hospital.

Ramaiah’s son and daughter-in-law were not aware of the incident till the police came and woke them up.

The police later found the suitcase dumped a few yards away from the crime scene. The police said that the robber had tried to steal valuables from another house and escaped after attacking the inmates.
