More than 3,000 cyclists pedalled a distance of 5 kilometres from Cubbon Park to Sree Kanteerava Stadium as part of the Saksham Cyclothon.

The cyclothon, organised by GAIL (India) as part of the Sanrakshan Kshamta Mahotsav 2019, saw the participants being rewarded with new cycles.

A release said the objective was to create awareness amongst the people about fuel conservation, protection of the environment and promote the use of cycle for short distances.

P. Murugesan, Executive Director (Southern Region), GAIL (India) said even small initiatives by individuals to substitute and reduce the usage of petroleum products can go a long way in contributing towards fuel conservation and protection of the environment.
