18 artistes chosen for Karnataka Kalashree awards

The Karnataka Sangeeta Nritya Academy has chosen Sugama Sangeetha singer M.K. Jayashree and Shivaraja Shastry of Koppal for the Karnataka Kalashree Award of Honour in the fields of Sugama Sangeetha and Katha Keerthana for 2015-16.

A committee, headed by president of the academy, Gangamma Keshavamurthy, has chosen the artistes for the annual award. Sixteen music and dance artistes figure in the list of awards, from the fields of Carnatic, Hindustani, dance, Sugama Sangeetha, Katha Keerthana, Gamaka, released here on Wednesday by the academy.

They will receive the award at a function organised at Ravindra Kalakshetra on December 12, according to the release.

The list of the winners are as follows: Carnatic Sangeet: Gudibande Kumaraswamy (Bengaluru), Rajalakshmi Sridhar (Mysuru), M.R. Sainath (Mangaluru), Virupasandra Gopalakrishna Chair (Chickballapur); Hindustani Sangeet: Humayun Harlapur (Shivamogga), R.V. Hegde (Sirsi), Vadiraj Nimbargi (Bagalkot), Eeranna Jalibenchi (Raichur); Nritya: Usha Venugopal (Chamarajanagar), A.N. Sudhir Kumar (Bengaluru), Ramaa Jagannath (Bengaluru); Sugama Sangeeta: G. Pushpalata (Mysuru); Katha Keerthana: N.K. Mohan Kumar (Tumakuru); Gamaka: A.V. Prasanna and Nirmala Prasanna (Bengaluru), Krishnagiri Ramachandra (Mysuru); Organisations: Srirama Lalita Kala Mandira (Bengaluru)
