A 17-year-old pedestrian was killed on the spot when he was allegedly hit by a high-end car driven by a doctor, who was reportedly in an inebriated state, near Domlur flyover during the early hours on Monday.

The deceased, Kevin Richard, was the a son of a flower decorator and a resident of Domlur Layout. He was crossing the road when the car accident took place, police said.

The doctor, identified as Ravi Teja A., 30, stopped to help the victim. He performed Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on him on the side of the road after which he took the victim in his car to Manipal Hospital for treatment. But, he was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, said the police.

The accident occurred around 12.35 a.m. on HAL Airport Road, opposite the Kanakadasa BBMP park underneath the Domlur flyover.

Dr. Ravi Teja was returning to his home in Murugeshpalaya from Shantinagar after attending a party, police said.

Kevin, along with two of his friends, had come from a flower market in Marathahalli and was crossing the road near the Domlur flyover.

The police said the car hit Kevin, who fell on the bonnet and his head hit the windshield, which broke. He was tossed up in the air before landing on the road sustaining a grievous head injury.

Dr. Ravi Teja pulled over to the side. He told the victim’s friends that he is a doctor and could help. He also tried calling an ambulance (108) and the police (on 100).

One of Kevin’s friends, Santhosh Kumar, informed the police. Halasuru traffic police, who reached Manipal Hospital, took Dr. Ravi Teja for a blood alcohol test in the same hospital, which indicated that the level was 113 mg/dL, much above the permissible limit.

The doctor was booked under Section 304 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the IPC. He was arrested, produced before a magistrate on Monday afternoon, and remanded in judicial custody, police said.

The police have seized the car for further investigation.

Kevin’s body was taken to Bowring Hospital for a post-mortem after which it was handed over to his family.

Dr. Ravi Teja is from Kadappa district in Andhra Pradesh. He had done his MBBS in Kolar and pursued his Master of Surgery (MS) in Vydhehi Hospital, police said. He works as an oncology surgeon in Manipal Hospital.
