13 children are rescued from chips factory

Thirteen children were rescued from a factory in J.P. Nagar 8{+t}{+h}phase on Wednesday. The children, aged between 14 and 18, handled machines that churned out cheese balls and also in the packaging unit. Vani Kantli, State Programme Co-ordinator, Bachpan Bachao Andolan said that the factory had 60 labourers. They were brought from Bihar and promised Rs. 6,000 per month but were given only around Rs. 2,000. They worked for up to 12 hours each day.

Cases have been booked against the employer under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000 and for trafficking minors.
