A whopping 13 cases of red sanders smuggling has been registered in Thirumalashettyhalli police limits, near Hoskote, alone this year and 5.8 tonnes of the timber worth Rs. 75 lakh has been seized. The police said that all cases had been reported from Kattigenahalli and Govindapura village, which are frequented by smugglers from Andhra Pradesh. “We are focusing on these two villages to prevent red sanders smuggling. Both the villages are close to Pillgumpe industrial area where the timber is converted to furniture and other decorative items, which can be taken to a foreign country easily,” said Superintendent of Police Ramesh Bannoth.
